Tamara (Tam) Washington is a native of Mississippi and former Illinois Resident I  relocated to Madison area in 2014 I'm the . Mother of two boys -ages 29 and 16 , I  find passion in being a mother and inspiring /encouraging others around me with an encouraging word or laughter. I enjoy reading , singing , and cooking in my free time.

As an addiction counselor and working in the human services field  for the past 15 years, I  have grown a heart for my career because I see people who were once hopeless transform their lives with my help and the help of others in the field.  I  presently work with an amazing team at Dane County  where I am able to continue to pursue my passion in mental health and substance abuse as well as assist people with housing needs. . I was  inspired to change when noticing intermittent spikes in my  blood pressure that began also with the death of my  Mother in 2016. In addition I  began to have problems with anxiety and noticed a decline in   my overall health.  When I  joined black Women's wellness, I had already begun the journey to my wellness. I was continuously surrounded by women who share the same concerns and roadblocks -how do I provide for my family and take time for myself. ?  I'm so busy,  where do I start ?  Being involved with Black  women's wellness has made that possible -walking, integrating holistic healing into my lifestyle and seeing other women's transformation has been a huge influence. -we encourage each other. Since joining BWW I've continued to maintain a healthy weight, no longer have blood pressure spikes and have found natural and effective ways to manage anxiety. My goal is that other woman will look at me, and my situations and know that they too, can transform their life and be well mentally, emotionally, and physically.
