Dr. April Scott is a dedicated wellbeing strategist and transformative leader committed to the holistic well-being of Black women. Currently serving as the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Wellbeing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Scott specializes in the intersection of mental health, organizational development, and systemic equity.
With a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Dr. Scott’s work is rooted in the belief that wellness is a radical act of self-preservation and empowerment. She brings extensive clinical training in navigating stress, grief, and burnout, having gained deep experience in diverse settings ranging from Veterans Affairs hospitals to community health centers. Her approach to stress management is both evidence-based and trauma-informed, designed to provide practical, culturally-responsive tools for navigating life’s complexities.
A seasoned educator and advocate, Dr. Scott has spent over 12 years teaching and mentoring, focusing on the success of high-pressure populations and first-generation scholars. Her expertise centers on Social Resilience Theory—equipping individuals and groups with the psychological frameworks necessary to move beyond surviving and into a state of collective thriving.
Dr. Scott holds degrees from Tuskegee University, Barry University, and Auburn University. Whether guiding institutional strategy or facilitating intimate community wellness sessions, her mission remains the same: to create restorative spaces where Black women can prioritize their mental health and reclaim their joy.
